Description
Directed Study in Human Prosection is a variable 1 – 5 credit hour elective that provides students with hands-on prosection of selected regions of preserved Human Cadavers or isolated body parts. Students can accumulate a maximum of 15 credits in all enrollments.

Description
Independent Study in Clinical Human Morphology” is offered as a variable 1 – 5 credit course. Students may accumulate a maximum of 10 credits in all enrollments for the course. The specific topics for study can be based on gross anatomy, histology, radiological anatomy, cytology, neuroscience, or embryology, depending on the interest of the Faculty involved or the student.

IM 618 - Clinical Tropical Medicine

Description
This 2-credit elective is meant to provide an introduction to the practice of clinical medicine in resource-challenged settings. The focus of the course is on Africa, because of the clinical electives offered by MSU-COM for fourth year students, but much of the content will be relevant in other settings.

OMM 590 - Sports OMT Elective

Description
Sports OMT is a 1 credit hour elective that is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to actively treat MSU Division I athletes using OMT under the guidance of faculty residents.
This course is a two-year commitment. First year students are trained to evaluate and treat the lumbar, sacrum, pelvis, and lower extremity regions using a standardized OMT protocol. Second year students spend time at Jenison Field House treating MSU Division I cross-country athletes using the standardized OMT protocol.

- For section 606: OMS2, enrolled last year
- Sports OMT is a 2-year commitment.

OST 590 - Medical Case Study Journal Club Syllabus

Description
The Medical Case Study course is a 1-credit hour elective that will take place in seven 2-hour class sessions. In the first hour, students will present published “Case Reports” that they have specifically selected to align with the content of their courses. In the second hour, participating clinicians will engage students in “Case of the Day” presentations, based on patients encountered in practice.

Description
The primary goal of this elective one-week, 3 credit course is to introduce students to the health care delivery model in Cuba while experiencing the country’s rich culture. The students will explore the public health and community medicine model by on site observation of the delivery of community health clinics, maternal health, pediatric care, and geriatric care. The students will experience healthcare through the Cuban School of Public Health.
