Compliance Checklist - this checklist will aid students in keeping track of compliances, from pre-matriculation to graduation.
As an MSUCOM student, it is your professional responsibility to be compliant in each of the following areas at all times:
Immunizations - all students must be compliant with immunizations throughout their tenure at MSUCOM. Failure to be compliant at any time will result in the immediate suspension from all participation as a student with MSUCOM until such time as the student becomes compliant. This will include processing the student's withdrawal from the College (dropping all current semester enrollment, as well as all future semester enrollment). If the student is receiving financial aid, this will prevent future aid disbursement and could require repayment of aid received for the current semester. Additionally, a letter of unprofessional behavior will be placed in the student's academic file with reference made to it in the student's Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE; Dean’s Letter).
Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Check - each student must be fingerprinted and have a criminal background check prior to matriculation to MSUCOM. These are used to verify student identity and verify any criminal history.
HIPAA - (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) – each student must complete annual HIPAA training (on-line training is available through D2L).
BLS (Basic Life Support) & ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - During summer semester of the students’ 2nd year, BLS/ACLS training will be required of all students. This training will be provided via the Learning and Assessment Center. Each student will be responsible for bearing the cost of this training. The certification is required for entry into the Clerkship program, valid for two years, and must be maintained for the duration of the Clerkship years. For those students wishing to recertify their BLS, ACLS, or PALS certification, please register here: http://msu.enrollware.com/registration/schedule.aspx
Urine Drug Screens - before entry into the Clerkship Curriculum (spring of second year), each student must undergo a urine drug screen.
Respirator Fit Test - respirator fit testing will be required beginning with the Class of 2018. Students will complete this requirement in the summer semester of their second year (Semester 7).
Responsible Conduct of Research - Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training is required for all students in the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Universal Precautions - each student must complete annual training sessions in Universal Precautions (learning how to prevent exposure to blood and airborne pathogens as well as other infectious agents as well as learning what to do if exposed to these agents):
Please be advised that costs associated with immunizations, monitoring, and titers are the responsibility of the student.
- Health Insurance - All students at MSUCOM must be covered by health insurance. If you have questions about the University's health insurance program please contact MSU Human Resources at firstname.lastname@example.org or (517) 353-4434. Keep in mind that you will be automatically enrolled in the plan through a charge on your tuition bill. Enrollment in the University plan can be waived by providing proof of comparable coverage to MSU Human Resources.
MSU Medical Student Insurance Waiver Requirements
- Disability Insurance - MSUCOM provides students with disability coverage that will pay a monthly benefit in the event a student becomes disabled due to sickness or injury, as well as the option to continue coverage upon graduation.
