Program Objectives

The objectives of the four year course of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine are based upon the core competencies of the osteopathic profession and support the mission and vision of MSUCOM.

Core Competencies

The seven core competencies of the osteopathic profession include medical knowledge, patient care, communication, professionalism, practice based learning, systems based practice, and osteopathic principles and practice (OPP) and osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). The four-year curriculum provides education, training and assessment to ensure each student develops competency in these domains.

Program Level Educational Objectives

The Program Level Education Objectives expand upon the core competencies by explaining the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors (KSA’s) that osteopathic medical students are expected to attain prior to graduation. MSUCOM faculty have identified and endorsed 34 KSA’s, which are available in the following document:
