The Impact You Have

Scholarship

We need medical students who choose their life’s work based on their talents, their interests, and their passion to serve, not based on how much debt they will accrue in medical school.  As America’s demographics and populations change, we need physicians who represent diverse, vibrant communities and physicians who are ready to serve from remote rural corners of the Upper Peninsula to metropolitan Detroit.

Scholarships help deserving medical students meet important financial needs and they also provide invaluable nontangible support. “When I found out I had received the Michigan Osteopathic College Foundation scholarship, it felt like the scholarship committee was telling me ‘You do belong here; you deserve to be here,’” noted fourth-year College of Osteopathic Medicine student Robert Ray.

“Our goal is to help talented, caring future doctors think about both the art and the science of medicine,” says Dean Andrea Amalfitano. “By supporting scholarships, we can help deserving students financially, so they can concentrate on their studies and on activities that will prepare them for careers in osteopathic medicine.”

Broadening Horizons through International Experiences

Support for the Peru Global Medical Elective enables College of Osteopathic Medicine students to experience a one-of-a-kind learning experience as they learn about health care in Peru, first in an urban center, and then from the deck of a clinic that floats down the Amazon River. This global outreach also provides opportunities for students to engage in research directly effecting the populations they encounter.

Student Community Outreach

Detroit Street Care and Spartan Street Medicine are outreach activities through which our students provide medical assistance to the homeless, while developing their clinical and patient relationship skills. Support for programs like these enable students to assist the less fortunate in our home communities, while building professional proficiencies.
