Academic and Career Advising
The MSUCOM Office of Academic and Career Advising provides comprehensive academic, board and career advising across the 4-year DO curriculum. Our team strives to create a brave space that treats students equitably and where students of all identities are supported in their academic and career journey. Each student is provided with individualized advising that is evidence based and encompassed in ongoing education and professional development of our advising team members.
The Office of Academic and Career Advising partners with students to empower the creation and ownership of their purpose and aspirations in medicine.
What we believe in:
Accessibility – To exceed the expectations of our students with open communication and responsiveness through in-person and online platforms based on the individual student’s needs.
Collaboration – To partner with students, stakeholders in the college and the university, alumni, and throughout the base hospitals and Statewide Campus System to enhance and support student education and achievement.
Evidence Based – To assess overall outcomes in order to practice evidence-based, strategic advising during each student interaction.
Equity – To uphold policies, practices, and processes that ensure all students have access to academic success tools, board preparation resources, and residency education and opportunities.
Inclusion – To create a brave and welcoming environment respectful of individuals’ unique backgrounds, beliefs, identity, and goals.
Innovation – To continually improve programs and service delivery through advances in technology, resources, and team development.
Professional Development - To commit to continual growth and education of our team in areas of advising, student development, and DEI initiatives through focused training sessions.
