Associate dean for research, Co-director of the D.O.- Ph.D. training program

Furqan B. Irfan is an Assistant Professor and Director of Research Development at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michigan State University. He has broad ranging experience in research and academic health system development, epidemiology, population and global health, big data analysis, translational public health, health services research, healthcare business and policy.

I am an Associate Professor in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and in Pediatrics and Human Development. In the College of Osteopathic Medicine, I serve as the co-director of the DO/PhD program. The broad theme of my research is common complex diseases. The current objectives are to identify genetic factors that cause and contribute risk for orofacial clefting, and to measure and mitigate the impact of hearing loss using a community-based participatory approach in rural mid-Michigan.
